Muted Cuteness

Entry #2  Shadowbox SVG     After I realized the glittery one wouldn't work - I decided to use some regular paper from my stash to make this smaller & easier to mail bunny scene. Luckily the #ModSquadChallenge was 'Anything but a Card'. I'm glad to have been able to enter some stuff again. I had planned on making a 3rd shadowbox or something but spent this week laid up with a head cold. Hopefully I'm on the mend so I can be crafty this upcoming week.

Glittery Layers

Image
Entry #1 Easter Shadowbox SVG     I used an SVG and my Cricut Maker to create this 6 layer bunny scene. I initially made it for my brother & his family but since three of the four are boys I decided to keep this one for myself. I know boys can like glitter too but I didn't think it'd be appreciated there - because glitter gets everywhere. LOL      I was delighted to see the #ModSquadChallenge was 'Anything but a Card'. I've been meaning to get back to the MSC and I'm glad I had something to add. To finish this (just in case my 2 year old got ahold of it) - I covered it with a piece of acetate and then made a border that would wrap around to the back and hold all the layers in place & hopefully the glitter inside!

Theme: Butterflies       This card took quite a few more twists than I planned on but I like the outcome and I love the sentiments I paired together. For this top folding card I stamped Birch Trees from KSS with Distress Oxides in Ground Espresso (#2) & Vintage Photo (#1). I used Distress Inks for the foliage from darkest to lightest: Pine Needles, Rustic Wilderness & Mowed Lawn. Interestingly enough when I stamped out a mask today I used all Distress Inks; Walnut Stain, Brushed Corduroy, Rustic Wilderness, Mowed Lawn & Old Paper and they looked fab together too! I needed a mask for my trees and my butterfly because I was totally lame and forgot to ink blend a background - I ended up using a blending brush with Oxide Tumbled Glass and unintentionally made it look like clouds. I colored the butterfly using my alcohol markers in Yellow, Deep Yellow & Orange, Black on the wings and Cool Gray for the head. The 'thinking of you' sentiment was from the same set as

Be Unique

MSC Entry 1  Theme: Butterfly          I've always found such beauty in butterflies. They are amazing creatures that come naturally in vibrant beautiful colors (& some not so vibrant). When I was a teenager (17) I went to a butterfly sanctuary with my dad in Costa Rica. At the time I was really into photography so I took lots of photos so I'd never forget. Unfortunately, I didn't just enjoy myself in first person so I don't remember it as well as I'd have liked. I didn't learn until I was in my mid-20's that I hold on to the memories a lot easier when I'm not watching/experiencing something through the lens of something else. I'm glad I did learn that about myself before I had my baby, who's turning 2 in November!           I'm ridiculously anal retentive but I try not to let it control me in art so although I stamped it twice, I picked the best one and moved on- be unique is the message I see in this sentiment. Perfection isn't un

Cards Made in August

August FSC swap cards - Die cut, mixed up and pieced back together. Backgrounds were done with Distress Inks while on vacation. The die sets are from Tim Holtz's Alterations line.   Cards made for two I haven't met but feel like I know as a hopeful pick me up to their hectic lives - stamped with VersaFine Clair Nocturne. The stamp set used is  More Big Time Sayings and were heat embossed and 3 thick. Gems I used are from Blingee Thingee on Etsy.   Saw my cousin for the first time in over 2 years and thought belatedly I should give him a good luck card since he was on his way back for his junior year in college. I was able to get this out in an afternoon - normally I way overthink things. The background was one I did blues/greens of Shimmering Bliss some time ago and saved. The embossing folder I used is from WRMK's Revolution Collection This was another Shimmering Bliss background that I used in yellows and orange. The embossing folder I used was Stargazer . I used Gold

Dry Embossing

New Tricks       I recently picked up an embossing set so I could use my dies in as many ways as possible. It's one of the reasons I was so thrilled to get the Big Shot. I've got tons of embossing folders but practically every die insert shows you can do impressions and emboss them and that sounded awesome. Anyway, it totally is! Took me a bit to figure out and quit facing the die towards the cutting plate. Note to self- if you're changing things up too, practice on regular paper before you use the good stuff. Luckily, I did for once.😄        For this top folding card I used a Spellbinders large die for the floral motif, I think next time I'll actually let it hang off the paper so it has the same look all around (because I once again forgot I'd have to trim it to mat it) but I love how it looks. I used the same mat paper from card number two but the reverse side. On watercolor paper (different than yesterdays) I used Shimmering Bliss in this order, heat setting be

Trying Something Different

Thank you, Take Two     On a recent live I was able to watch, I commented that I'd had a mishap with trying to flatten something that had warped after I'd heat embossed it, using Mama Minc. Two things - apparently it doesn't matter how heavy weight the paper is, if it's not watercolor paper, it's going to warp. Secondly, setting something with a heat gun is easier & much faster than letting it air dry, plus you can kind of control the warp as long as you frequently move your hand. 😏 Unfortunately for me, it still did warp a bit but I just used the weight of my Easy Press 2 on the lowest setting possible and it did the trick enough to mat it (without taking off the entire heat embossing, as had happened with the Minc). I do like heat embossing and although I can do okay with inking over, I need more practice with the sprays. From now on, I'll link everything below because I lose my train of thought too easily.     For this top folding card, I used watercolor
